Most of us are aware of Breast Cancer. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the National Breast Cancer Foundation reminds women they should have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages, and that everyone should encourage women they know to create such a plan.
You can learn how to create an early detection plan, get more information about the disease and treatment, or learn about hosting a fundraiser to provide mammograms to women in need at the Foundation’s website.
You can help promote awareness by wearing your pink ribbon scrubs and accessories during the month of October. There are many flattering and eye-catching items included in allheart’s huge selection. Wearing them shows your support for the cause and gives you a way to open a discussion about Breast Cancer Awareness with your patients and co-workers.

June 1st marks the beginning of National CPR/AED Awareness Week. This week highlights the importance of learning how to administer CPR and AEDs (automated external defibrillators). In the U.S. alone, nearly 250,000 to 300,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) each year. The heart unexpectedly stops beating, and oxygen is deprived from the brain and other vital organs. SCA can claim a victim in only minutes, and many times 911 emergency respondents are too late to the scene.
CPR gives bystanders the ability to save a life during an emergency. A victim of SCA’s chances of survival almost double when CPR is applied within the first few minutes. It is also encouraged to learn how to use an AED—a machine that attaches to the victim and applies timed electrical shocks. This can also help save those suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.
If you want to learn CPR, find your local American Red Cross chapter. The American Red Cross always offers CPR & AED classes, and they are even hosting special events during CPR/AED Awareness Week. allheart also sells CPR tools if you need equipment for a class or work. It’s never too late to be trained how to save someone’s life, educate yourself today.
Wednesday, May 22 is a day dedicated to the unique needs of children in emergency situations.
Children respond differently than adults to illness and injury and have their own spectrum of diseases and injuries. Proper treatment calls for specific equipment, supplies, and medications that may not always be available in emergency systems designed for adults.
On this day during Emergency Medical Services week, EMS providers are setting aside time to focus on the unique needs of children and on advocating for proper preparation to handle childhood emergencies, including education, training, protocols and procedures.
At allheart.com, we want to salute all EMS providers and, on this day, to say thanks to those who provide the special attention required by children.
For some medical equipment designed especially for treating children, we invite you to take a look at the great prices on our Pedia Pals products or our selection of high-quality pediatric stethoscopes.
Tomorrow, April 22, is the 41st annual Earth Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation for the environment. We think it’s a great time to encourage and support practical efforts to help protect the planet. Every little bit counts, and it’s easier than you think!
Encourage your workplace to get involved. It’s easy to recycle, reuse, and repurpose. Create recycling areas for all paper and plastic. Ask colleagues to reuse paper and print double-sided; you’ll reduce unnecessary waste and stretch your office supply budget at the same time. Eliminate plastic and Styrofoam waste in the break room by repurposing old dishes and utensils from home.
You can also support companies that offer products made from sustainable fabrics and manufactured with environmentally safe methods. Check out the soft, sustainable bamboo tops and scrub pants from Cherokee and IguanaMed. Do No Harm offers a line of high-tech workwear created from eco-friendly recycled textiles. And look to L.A. Rose for organic cottons that are easy on the environment.
