It’s National Nurses Week!

10 May

National Nurses Week began May 6th and ends on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale (founder of modern nursing). Celebrate your favorite nurses with a gift of appreciation for all their hard work (and long hours!). We have a Nurses Week Gift Guide with diagnostic and medical accessory suggestions to help you with your gift hunt. I’d take a look at some of the numerous pins that Prestige Medical offers, like this RN lapel pin. The gold-plated enamel will shine on any scrub top, and it’s only $9.98! Also, Whimsical Watches makes detailed watches with handcrafted miniatures as part of their designs. Check out their Unisex RN Watch here–it features a miniature nurse hat and RN symbol!

Nurses make a valuable contribution to our society every day. We greatly thank all our nurses and are glad to have their commitment to quality patient care!

Happy Earth Day!

22 Apr

Today marks the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day– a holiday to reflect on ways to lessen our carbon footprint. There are many small changes you can make to help the environment, most are very easy:

    • Instead of plastic bags to hold your groceries, grab a couple of reusable tote bags to carry your goods. Check out Prestige Medical’s Large Canvas Bag– it comes in several fun designs and is perfect to take on those shopping trips.
    • Pack your lunch for a week. Many restaurants often use Styrofoam containers for take-out. This material is usually non-biodegradable, which in turn creates a lot of environmental waste. Use washable plastic containers for your food and store everything in a lunch bag like this one. You’ll be saving money and the environment too!
    • Go green with your scrubs! Look for recycled and eco-friendly fabrics. IguanaMed’s Green Line uses a combination of bamboo and cotton fabric for their apparel. I’d recommend their comfy V-Neck 2-Pocket Top and Trugreen Boot Cut Pants as great “green” options to add to your closet.

February is American Heart Month

14 Feb

Show your heart some love during February’s American Heart Month! Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States for both men and women, with 600,000 deaths per year. Since it affects so many individuals, it’s important to spread the word on how you can help fight this disease. A healthy diet and exercise go a long way to ensure a strong body and heart. Eat plenty of fruits and veggies, avoiding foods high in cholesterol and trans fat. Make sure to also get plenty of rest as well—these preventative measures could save you from future cardiovascular problems including high blood pressure and stroke. Wearing red this month is another great way to show your support. Take a pick from one of the many red tops in our store—the White Swan V-Neck is only $6.99 in the clearance section, and our 3-Pocket Scrub Top is currently $8.98!

National Glaucoma Awareness Month

3 Jan

National Glaucoma Awareness Month is a great reminder to make eye care a top priority. As one of the leading causes of blindness, Glaucoma affects about 2 million people—and nearly half don’t even know they have the disease! Glaucoma creates high eye pressure and damages the optic nerve, causing gradual blindness over time. With very few symptoms, it’s often called the “the sneak thief of sight”. While there isn’t a cure for this disease, it can be treated if caught early.

Good news though, glaucoma is preventable! Be sure to schedule a regular eye examination once every 2 years if you’re under 40, and annually if older. 60+ is the highest-risk group for this disease. Healthy vision is an important concern for all ages.

And medical professionals looking for new eye equipment, Riester now has an Ophthalmoscope with cutting-edge LED technology and high performance optics. Head over to our eye care section for even more diagnostic tools and accessories.

October 21st is National Mammography Day

21 Oct

October 21 is National Mammography Day! First proclaimed by President Clinton in 1993, the third Friday in October is dedicated to encouraging women to make a mammography appointment. And to encourage screenings, on this day and throughout the month, participating radiologists will provide discounted or free screening mammograms.

Mammography screening remains the best available method to detect breast cancer early. So show your support to the breast cancer cause this month by asking everyone to make a promise to take care of herself and get a mammogram if they are 40 or over.

We have an entire section dedicated to breast cancer awareness; head over to allheart and check it out!
